YOUNG people are showing an interest in building trade jobs as an antidote to the threat that artificial intelligence poses, a survey issued has revealed.

Website Checkatrade carries lists of approved building trades for the public and has found in a recent survey that 48 per cent of young people were considering a trade career.

The survey also found that 80 per cent said AI has made them worried about office-based job security.

It comes as Prime Minister Andy Burnham recently unveiled plans for new technical education routes for 14-year-olds in a bid to tackle youth unemployment.

In Wales, the threat of AI to jobs prompted TUC Cymru to develop guidance for the public sector which has been agreed by trade unions, public-sector leaders and the Welsh government through the Workforce Partnership Council. 

The agreement means that unions and public bodies have a mandate to adapt and adopt this guidance in workplaces.
