MILLWALL boss Alex Neil admits the club must look “internally” at its injury problems after another fitness setback.

There wasn’t much to shout about for most of the first half as both teams cancelled each other out without creating many chances.

The main battle early in the game was between Zak Sturge and Issa Kabore. Left wing-back Sturge started strongly, doing his defensive duties as Kabore was Wrexham’s outlet from right wing-back.

Millwall’s Mark Sykes had the match’s first real chance in the 21st minute when the ball fell into the box following a cross from the opposite side, but his effort went wide.

The battle between Sturge and Kabore took a turn in the 28th minute, but this time in Kabore’s favour as Wrexham played quickly from the back.

Max Cleworth passed to Lewis O’Brien, who flicked the ball near the halfway line to Kieffer Moore, the Welsh striker then played the bombarding Kabore who raced into the box and his cross deflected off Sturge, beating Max Crocombe in the Millwall goal.

Just before the half ended, Millwall had a few efforts just outside of the box, but none of them required a save from Anthony Patterson in goal, continuing the trend of no shots on target.

The away side started off the second half brightly as Moore slotted in O’Brien in the 51st minute, a big chance for O’Brien but he hit his shot over the bar.

However, a minute later, that didn’t matter as Josh Windass passed it to Moore, who struck cleanly into the bottom corner from the outside the box, beating the diving Crocombe to his right and doubling Wrexham’s lead.

Wrexham maintained control even when both sides made changes.

It was one dangerous wing-back to another for the Reds, as substitute Danny Imray made an immediate impact two minutes after coming on, crossing for the incoming Jacques Ekomie who finished first-time as Wrexham extended their lead to 3-0.

It was arguably the perfect away performance where Wrexham controlled the ball, dominated the game and made sure that Patterson didn’t have a save to make all game.

A relieved Phil Parkinson said: “I’m pleased to get the first win of the season and pleased with the response after getting beaten by Birmingham. We should probably have more points, but we had to respond and we did.”
