An Amazon cargo plane at Miami International Airport after overshooting a runway on September 7, 2026

UNITED STATES: Federal investigators announced a probe last night after an Amazon cargo jet left the runway after landing at Miami International Airport, killing at least five people and injuring five more when it struck vehicles and burst into flames.

The aircraft overran the runway at about 2pm on Sunday after arriving from Puerto Rico and ploughed across a road. Three of the injured were in a critical condition, officials said.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the pilots had survived.

UKRAINE: US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have held “encouraging” talks in Kiev during their first official visit to the country, but they made no breakthrough in efforts to end the war with Russia.

Sunday’s visit followed a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow the day before.

The two sides’ core demands remain mutually exclusive, especially over territorial concessions.

NEPAL: The country held a day of mourning yesterday for those killed in the August 26 flash floods, with flags lowered at government offices and families concluding rituals for their lost loved ones.

It was the 13th day since the flooding, which killed more than 1,300 people in Nepal and Tibet and left some 5,000 missing, including foreigners, according to Nepal’s disaster management agency.

SERBIA: Former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic, who died in The Hague while serving a life sentence for war crimes, was buried in Belgrade yesterday with military honours and crowds attending.

Belgrade had defied European Union warnings against allowing public homage to the man found guilty of the continent’s first case of genocide since World War II.
