AFGHANISTAN: The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor announced today he had requested arrest warrants for two top Afghan Taliban officials for the repression of women.

Karim Khan said in a statement he asked judges to approve warrants for the group’s supreme leader, Hibatullah Akhunzada, and the head of Afghanistan’s Supreme Court, Abdul Hakim Haqqani, accusing the men of crimes against humanity for gender-based persecution.

LEBANON: Saudi Arabia’s top diplomat visited Lebanon today for the first time in a decade following years of strained relations between the oil-rich kingdom and the tiny Mediterranean country.

Prince Faisal bin Farhan’s visit comes almost two months after a ceasefire went into effect that halted Israel and the Hezbollah group’s war that battered southern Lebanon and destroyed much of the group’s military capabilities.

GREECE: Authorities said today they had found 66 migrants in two locations on the southern Greek island of Crete who had sailed to the island from the Libyan coast in north Africa, a route increasingly used by smuggling rings.

The coast guard said the migrants from Bangladesh, Egypt and Sudan included five minors and three women.

They were found on land in two separate areas on the southern coast of Crete early on Wednesday morning.

SOUTH KOREA: Authorities in South Korea said today they will remove concrete embankments near airport runways in response to a recent air disaster that killed 179 people, according to media reports.

The embankments contain antennae called localisers designed to guide aircraft during landings and have been blamed for making last month’s crash of a Jeju Air plane in the city of Muan worse.
