KENYA: Flights at Nairobi airport were delayed today as workers began a planned strike over a dispute with the authorities, demanding better pay and working conditions.
Kenya Airways issued a travel advisory, urging customers to check their flight status before heading to the country’s main airport. The airline said air traffic control operation delays were affecting departures and arrivals.
MYANMAR: The military government has ordered East Timor’s senior diplomat to leave the country after authorities in that country accepted a criminal complaint against Myanmar’s armed forces, state media reported today.
There was no immediate response to a request for comment from East Timor’s government.
IRAN: Tehran’s top diplomat met the head of the UN nuclear watchdog agency today, ahead of a second round of negotiations with the United States over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear programme.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi met International Atomic Energy Agency director-general Rafael Grossi and said he would also meet Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi of Oman, which is hosting the US-Iran talks in Geneva tomorrow.
“I am in Geneva with real ideas to achieve a fair and equitable deal,” Mr Araghchi wrote on X. “What is not on the table: submission before threats.”
GERMANY: The government sought to assure Lebanon today that it will support its government even after pulling out troops deployed as part of a UN peacekeeping force along the Lebanon-Israel border when their mission ends later this year.
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier said Germany’s navy was already training Lebanese troops as they boost their presence in the country’s south.
