AFGHANISTAN: A grenade attack near a school in the capital Kabul has wounded multiple children, authorities said.

Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran said on Monday that “a number of children” had been wounded, and said an investigation was underway.

Richard Bennett, the United Nations special rapporteur for Afghanistan, today condemned “the heinous attack harming numerous children near a school” the previous day.


SYRIA: Israeli air strikes on an airbase in north-west Syria early today caused material damage without inflicting any casualties, Syrian TV reported.

The reports said eight strikes hit the runway of the Abu Duhur airbase in the north-western province of Idlib. It gave no further details.

There was no comment from the Israeli military.


PHILIPPINES: A high school student carrying two pistols shot dead a fellow student before killing himself today in an attack in a southern Philippine school campus that he livestreamed using a body-worn camera, police and other officials said.

The suspect, identified as Mohammad Mael Jalani, reportedly fired at a teacher before shooting a student and then killing himself.


PAKISTAN: The Supreme Court today ordered authorities to take imprisoned ex-prime minister Imran Khan to a private hospital in Islamabad for a medical examination, following months of concerns about his health and access to medical care, his lawyers and party officials said.

The court also ordered prison officials to allow Mr Khan weekly meetings with family members and telephone calls with his sons. Mr Khan’s family has been struggling to secure access to him and have him examined by physicians of his choice.
