WELSH government announced today that the launch of new health hubs for women across Wales will improve access to healthcare services.
The first women’s health hub will open before the end of January, with hubs in place in each of the seven Welsh health board areas by early March 2026.
The hubs were part of the NHS-led Women’s Health Plan and will provide integrated women’s health services, focusing on menstrual health, contraception, and menopause.
Minister Sarah Murphy said: “The hubs develop another step forward for women’s health in Wales improving health outcomes for women and bring care closer to home.
“We are building a health service which meets the needs of women and girls, now and for generations to come,” Ms Murphy said.
The Primary Care Academy has provided training for staff about menopause, sexual health, and long-acting reversible contraception fitting.
Health Education and Improvement Wales has developed e-learning modules, which will be accessible to all NHS staff from March, covering general women’s health and specific conditions such as endometriosis.
The hubs will be tailored to local needs, but all will be based on a core set of values and principles - some will operate over multiple sites and others will be accessed online.
This could mean the hubs looking different in each area, but every one should adhere to the same holistic approach to women’s health and will meet a checklist of requirements.
Each of Wales seven health boards has received an additional £300,000 this financial year to support the development of the pathfinder hubs.
