WELSH language campaigners today welcomed a new report aimed at boosting the use of the language as a natural part of everyday life across Wales.

The latest report from the Commission for Welsh-speaking Communities highlights investing in social, cultural and digital spaces so that Welsh can be used more in everyday life.

Cymdeithas yr Iaith (Welsh Language Campaign) chairman Owain Meirion said: “It is a piece of analysis that sets clear recommendations for the next Welsh government.

“It is key to the future of the language that whoever forms the government after the election in May immediately sets about implementing all the recommendations of this report to give the Welsh language to everyone who lives in Wales, as well as a wider policy program to revive the language.”

Commission co-chairman Dr Simon Brooks said: “To ensure Welsh is a national language that belongs to us all, its future as a community language must be secured in every community across Wales.
“I urge the next Welsh government to act on our recommendations with the ambition the language deserves.”
