A WELSH Labour council leader hit out at a Restore councillor’s social media posts today, branding them as “divisive and racist.”

Bridgend County Borough deputy leader Jane Gebbie spoke to the Star after Owain Clatworthy wrote about a group of young black people using a public park.

She said that his rhetoric and comments were causing anxiety among members of the community in the borough.

Bridgend Council’s deputy leader also responded to his comments on social media, saying: “If he genuinely believed there was a safeguarding issue, why wasn’t a safeguarding referral made?

“I believe Cllr Clatworthy’s posts need to be called out for what they are: divisive, inflammatory and racist.

“Young people should not be made to feel unwelcome in their own community because of the colour of their skin.

“There is also a disturbing pattern of targeting women who challenge or call out his views.

“Misogyny and intimidation have no place in public life.”
