FAR-RIGHT paramilitary forces linked to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi have been accused of killing a 15-year-old student during a temple festival on Wednesday night.
The boy, known as Abhimanyu, was stabbed to death in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. He was reportedly an activist in the left-wing Students’ Federation of India.
The killing took place on the first day of the festival for the Hindu god Vishnu.
According to the local unit of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), those who carried out the attack had originally been looking for Abhimanyu’s older brother Ananthu, an activist in the Democratic Youth Federation of India.
The CPI-M unit alleged that the killing involved members of the far-right Hindu nationalist group Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), of which Mr Modi is a lifelong supporter.
It would not be the first time that the far-right group’s members have targeted children. In 2015 an RSS activist known as Vijayakumar killed eight-year-old Mohammed Fahad, who came from a communist-supporting Muslim family.
