US halts much of its intelligence sharing with Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky prepares for a plenary meeting during a European leaders' summit on the situation in Ukraine at Lancaster House, London, March 2, 2025

THE United States has halted much of its intelligence sharing with Ukraine.

In a bitter blow to Kiev, US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said Washington had “taken a step back” on sharing intelligence.

Mr Waltz added that the US was “pausing and reviewing all aspects of this relationship.”

Other reports maintain that the US has said that it will no longer share information because Kiev may use it to attack targets inside Russia.

Earlier reports suggest the US has also blocked Britain and other European allies from sharing intelligence gathered by Washington with the Ukrainians.

The move follows a week of scrambling by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his European allies to repair relations with US President Donald Trump and Vice-President JD Vance after an astonishing public row in the White House’s Oval Office last Friday.

President Zelensky said on Tuesday that the Oval Office spat was “regrettable,” adding that he stands ready to work under Mr Trump’s “strong leadership” to secure a lasting peace.

Mr Zelensky’s remarks came in a social media post on X, hours after the White House announced a pause in military aid to Ukraine, critical to fighting Russia’s invasion.
