Teachers at Great Ormond Street Hospital to strike over sacking of union rep

TEACHERS at a children’s hospital school in London launched strike action on Wednesday after the “targeted and unjust” dismissal of their union rep in the wake of management bullying claims.

Staff will picket the Greater Ormond Street and UCLH Hospital School until Friday, to demand that their NEU representative Kate Williams be reinstated and the headteacher be held accountable.

Teaching assistants and teachers have already taken 24 days of action since September, demanding that the school look into intimidation allegations.

Management have refused to meet with NEU representatives since the start of their campaign last year.

The headteacher was appointed to the role in September 2024, and a new chair of governors was appointed in February 2025.

Accusations against her include repeatedly calling staff into 1:1 meetings which left them shaking or in tears, with some reporting the school leader slamming her fist on the table.

The school has been approached for comment.
