MEN’S FOOTBALL: Africa’s World Cup qualifying campaign restarts tomorrow with the Seychelles taking on Gabon in Group F.

The hosts have yet to pick up a point from their opening six games, whereas the Gabonese are just one point behind group leaders Ivory Coast, who face Burundi on Thursday, as they bid to make their first-ever World Cup finals.

Morocco retain the only 100 per cent qualifying record among the 54 teams.

MEN’S CYCLING: Belgian Walter Godefroot, the “Bulldog of Flanders,” who won bronze at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics road race before going on to win 13 grand tour stages, including 10 at the Tour de France, has died aged 82.

Godefroot took the green jersey at the 1970 Tour de France as leading points-scorer and was Belgium’s national champion in 1965 and 1972, both times finishing ahead of Eddy Merckx.

SPEEDWAY: Jack Holder top-scored with 14+1 points but Sheffield Tigers missed the chance to move second in the Premiership after slipping to a 47-43 defeat at form-team King’s Lynn on Monday evening.

The Tigers also missed out on the bonus aggregate point, going down 5-4 in the super heat.

Sheffield face table-toppers Ipswich at home tomorrow and away tomorrow to decide who will claim the league title.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Britain play Montenegro in their last game at the EuroBasket championship tomorrow afternoon after suffering a 120-57 thrashing against Germany on Monday for their fourth consecutive loss.

Chicago Bulls centre Nikola Vucevic scored 23 points as the Montenegrins edged out Sweden 87-81 to win their first game at the tournament on Monday.

Montenegro are ranked as the world’s 16th best team, 32 places above Britain.
