MEN’S FOOTBALL: England Under-21s boss Lee Carsley insists three points is something he does not “take for granted” after his side edged past Andorra 1-0 at Pride Park on Monday night.

England were up against a stubborn Andorra low-block and found it hard to break them down until Tyrique George made the breakthrough in the 41st minute.

The Young Lions would have hoped that opened the floodgates, but Andorra goalkeeper Marc De Castro made six saves to deny England from scoring more, and instead they had to settle for the one-goal win.

MEN’S CRICKET: India gained a seven-wicket victory over the West Indies in Delhi on Tuesday morning to wrap up a 2-0 test series win.

After posting 518-5, with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal hitting 175, Kuldeep Yadav took match figures of 8-106 to leave them chasing 121 in their second innings.

They won last week’s first game by an innings and 140 runs. India are ranked as the world’s fourth best test team, four place above the Windies.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Republic of Ireland defender Megan Campbell has announced her retirement from football.

Campbell, who played centre-back and left-back, won 57 caps for her country and included Manchester City and Liverpool among her former clubs.

The 32-year-old helped London City Lionesses secure promotion to the Women’s Super League last season but has been without a club since.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Two giants of north-east England non-league football were kept apart in the FA Cup first round draw when South Shields were handed a home tie with Shrewsbury Town, while Gateshead will travel to 1988’s winners AFC Wimbledon.

Among the other 38 fixtures four-time champions Bolton face 1922’s winners Huddersfield in an all-League One encounter. First round winners receive £45,000 in prize money, losers £15,000.
