SPEEDWAY: Emil Sayfutdinov scored 9+2 points and Jason Doyle bagged 10 as Ipswich Witches beat Leicester 46-43 in Thursday night’s second leg of the Premiership Grand Final for a 93-86 aggregate victory. It sealed the Witches first league title since 1998, when they won the domestic treble. Max Fricke, who had the highest average during the regular Premiership season, was yet again Leicester’s top scorer with 13 points.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Despite taking St Helens to the last four in this year’s Grand Final play-offs and leading the club to its “greatest ever achievement” when winning the 2023 Club World Cup challenge on Australian soil in his first game as head coach, Paul Wellens has been sacked. As a player Wellens made 495 appearances for St Helens picking up five Super League titles, two World Club Challenge trophies and five Challenge Cup winners medals.

WOMEN’S CRICKET: Defending World Cup champions and world number ones Australia face India in Visakhapatnam on Sunday morning with the hosts looking to bounce back from their three-wicket defeat to South Africa on Thursday. Australia have won both of their opening games against Pakistan and New Zealand. England take their two-match unbeaten start into tomorrow morning’s fixture against co-hosts Sri Lanka in Colombo.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Farnham Town kick off the FA Cup fourth qualifying round at lunchtime tomorrow when they take on Sutton United, who reached the fifth round proper in 2017 after beating Leeds. Among the weekend’s other fixtures Runcorn Linnets are seeking to reach the first round for the first time when they host Buxton and Altrincham, who hold the giant-killing record for knocking out league clubs, take on Harborough Town.
