Sport in brief: November 20, 2025

NETBALL: New Zealand came from behind to beat England 55-49 in Manchester on Wednesday night and sealed a closely fought 2-1 series win. The Silver Ferns had won the first match 61-58 before England took the second by the same score. New Zealand are currently ranked the world’s second best team behind Australia, two places above the English who next travel to face world number threes Jamaica at the beginning of December.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Joel Scott top-scored with 23 points but the London Lions slipped to a narrow 68-72 loss against EuroCup Group B table-toppers Bourg-en-Bresse at the Copper Box arena on Wednesday evening. Defeat sees the Lions drop to one place outside the play-off qualifying zone. Slovenia’s Olimpija Ljubljana are the new leaders of Group A on points difference after easing to a 93-73 win over bottom club Hamburg.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Despite Nicole Kozlova’s header giving them a 1-0 half-time lead, Scottish Premier League leaders Glasgow City lost 3-1 after extra time at Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday evening and crashed out of the Europa Cup’s round of sixteen 4-2 on aggregate. This is the inaugural staging of Uefa’s second tier competition and unlike the Champions League it is using a two-legged knock-out format.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Wigan-born Ryan Sutton, who spent six seasons in Australia’s National Rugby League after winning two Grand Finals for his hometown club, has joined Bradford as they prepare for their return to next year’s Super League. The 30-year-old forward made over 100 appearances at Wigan before signing for Canberra Raiders in 2019. Bradford won the last of their four Super League titles in 2005 before being relegated in 2014.
