NETBALL: Zara Everitt was player of the match as London Pulse claimed the inaugural Netball Super Cup after beating Leeds 20-15 in Saturday’s final of the one-day competition in Sheffield. 

Leeds had earlier beaten the Pulse 16-13 in their opening group game and saw off newly franchised club Nottingham Forest in the semi finals. 

London drew with reigning Super League champions Loughborough before edging out Manchester 17-16 in their last four clash.

MEN’S CYCLING: Slovenia’s world champion Tadej Pogacar recovered from a mid-race crash to win a record-equalling third men’s Strade Bianche title on Saturday after finishing 84 seconds ahead of Leeds-born Tom Pidcock. 

Dutch rider Demi Vollering won the women’s race 18 seconds ahead of compatriot Anna van der Breggan with Anna Henderson the highest placed Briton in 35th place, almost 15 minutes behind Vollering.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Defending champions Hunslet kicked off the 2025 National Conference season with a narrow 10-8 win at newly promoted Dewsbury Moor while fellow new-boys Waterhead saw off near-neighbours Rochdale Mayfield 36-18. 

Last year’s runners-up Siddal squeezed past Castleford’s Lock Lane 8-6, West Hull won 20-14 at Wath Brow, York Acorn cruised to a 22-0 victory over Thatto Heath and West Bowling beat Leigh Miners 36-22.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Linfield took another step towards regaining the northern Irish Premiership title with a 2-0 win at Crusaders that moved them 19 points clear of second-placed Glentoran. 

Reigning champions Larne are a further five points back in third after Paul O’Neill’s deflected strike earned them a 1-0 victory at bottom club Loughall, Dungannon lost 3-0 at home to Ballymena, form-team Coleraine edged to a 1-0 win at Glenavon and Portadown beat Carrick by the same score.
