MEN’S FOOTBALL: Emmanuel Dieseruvwe scored his 22nd goal of the season as Rochdale moved top of the National League by two points with a game in hand after holding off Brackley 3-2 on Tuesday evening. Second-placed York ended their 24-match unbeaten run by slipping to a 3-2 loss at Boreham Wood. At the other end of the table bottom club Truro drew 1-1 at Southend and Morecambe grabbed a vital 3-2 win at Wealdstone.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Less than four weeks after Championship side Halifax Panthers were wound up due to unpaid tax bills they have been re-admitted into the competition and will face unbeaten table-toppers London at home on Sunday. The 153-year-old club have received a 12-point deduction and now sit rock bottom of the league. Halifax were original members of the Northern Union in 1875 and beat St Helens to win 1987’s Challenge Cup.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Elise Hughes scored a stoppage time equaliser for Wales as they secured a 2-2 draw against Czechia in their opening World Cup qualifying fixture on Tuesday. Ireland went down 2-1 at home to 2023’s quarter finalists France, England eased to a 6-1 win over Ukraine in Turkey, Caroline Weir bagged a hat-trick as Scotland thumped Luxembourg 5-0 while Northern Ireland slumped to a 2-0 loss in Switzerland.

HORSE RACING: Lord Allen of Kensington has resigned as chair of the British Horseracing Authority after less than six months in the role. The Labour life peer, who was inducted into the House of Lords in 2013, failed to persuade the board to reform as a new independent body and also clashed with some members of the Racecourse Owners Association over a new commercial deal for race day data rights.
