ICE HOCKEY: Defending champions Belfast now lead the Elite League by eight points with a game in hand after beating second-placed Sheffield 3-1 and winning 3-0 at bottom club Fife on Sunday evening.

Sheffield hit back to thump third-placed Cardiff 5-1 while Nottingham, Coventry and Manchester all lost both of their weekend fixtures.

Dundee’s hopes of reaching the play-offs were all but ended by a 7-2 loss in Glasgow.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Antoinette Lewis came off the bench to top score with 19 points as Sheffield moved four points clear in the Super League after they came from behind to seal an 83-70 victory over second-placed Caledonia.

Manchester edged past Nottingham 75-73 on Sunday afternoon after Oaklands had beaten Leicester 81-72 and bottom-club Cardiff Met remain without a win following their 102-80 defeat at the Essex Rebels.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: New signing Mika Sivo scored four tries as Leeds cruised to a 58-6 thrashing of defending Super League champions Hull KR in Las Vegas on Sunday.

Two weeks ago the Humberside club beat Brisbane Broncos to win the World Club Challenge but now sit bottom of the Super League having lost both of their opening games.

Unbeaten Wigan top the table by two points ahead of a chasing group of six teams.

CYCLING: Darlington-born Matthew Brennan sprinted to victory in Sunday’s 195kms Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne one-day race.

In a bunch finish, the former junior World Track madison and individual pursuit champion finished with the same time as Italians Luca Mozzato and Matteo Trentin in second and third.

Brennan’s compatriot Lewis Askey was 11 seconds off the pace in 49th but 2023’s British champion Fred Wright did not finish.
