MEN’S FOOTBALL: Reigning champions England face the Netherlands in Bratislava on Wednesday evening for the first semi-final of this year’s European Under-21s Championship.
The Dutch saw off Portugal 1-0 in the quarter-finals, while England overcame Spain 3-1.
Tomorrow night’s other last four clash sees Germany up against France in Kosice. German striker Nick Woltemade is currently the tournament’s leading scorer with five goals.
SPEEDWAY: Tom Brennan top-scored with 11+1 points as the Ipswich Witches cruised past Leicester 54-36 on Monday evening to move a point clear of Sheffield at the top of the Premiership.
Defending champions Belle Vue Aces are a further three points off the pace in third after they came from behind to edge out King’s Lynn 48-42.
The Aces did not move into the lead until the last three heats.
MEN’S CRICKET: Sri Lanka meet Bangladesh in Colombo on Wednsesday for the second and final leg of their Test match series.
The first game was drawn in Galle last week, with the Sri Lankans struggling on 72-4 as they chased 295.
Earlier in the rain-affected game, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had been averaging just under 30 in Tests this year, scored a century in each inning, bagging 148 and an unbeaten 125.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Sampdoria, the Genoa-based club who were European Cup Winners Cup winners in 1990 and Serie A champions a year later, have avoided relegation to Italian football’s third flight.
They were awarded a 3-0 win in their play-off with Salernitana that was abandoned after smoke bombs and seats were thrown onto the pitch.
Sampdoria only reached the play-offs following Brescia’s eight point deduction for financial irregularities.
