MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Leinster cruised to a 32-7 victory over Pretoria’s Bulls in Saturday’s United Rugby Championship play-off final at Croke Park, Dublin. The Irishmen have now won the title a record nine times while the Bulls finished as runners-up for the third time in four years. In a much tighter contest at Twickenham, Bath edged out Leicester 23-21 to win their first English Premiership trophy since 1996.
MEN’S BASKETBALL: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, this season’s most valuable NBA player, topped the scoring charts once again with 35 points as Oklahoma City Thunder came from behind in the fourth quarter to overcome the Indiana Pacers 111-104. Indiana had led 101-97 with just over three minutes to play. The best of seven NBA finals series is now level at 2-2 with the next game in Oklahoma on Tuesday morning.
SPEEDWAY: Poland’s five-time world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik increased his lead at the top of this year’s standings to eleven points over second-placed Brady Kurtz following the two rounds held in Manchester over the weekend. Zmarzlik finished behind Britain’s Dan Bewley on the first night of the double-header before holding off Kurtz to win the second leg. Fredrik Lindgren moved up to third in the rankings with Jack Holder dropping to fourth.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: Shamrock Rovers put their six-point League of Ireland lead and nine-match unbeaten run on the line at third-placed Drogheda tomorrow evening. Shamrock won 2-1 at defending champions Shelbourne in their last outing while Drogheda eked out a 0-0 draw at St Patrick’s, who host Shelbourne in Monday’s Dublin’s red derby. Sligo Rovers climbed off the bottom of the table on Saturday with a 1-0 win over Waterford.
