MEN’S TENNIS:

Andy Murray lost in straight sets (6-3, 6-4) to world number 54 Marcos Giron in the Stuttgart Open first round on Tuesday evening.

The two-time Wimbledon champion, who has slipped to 97th in the world rankings, was playing in his 999th singles match.

He is next scheduled to play at the traditional Wimbledon warm-up Queen’s tournament in London, where he won the title five times between 2009-2016.

MEN’S BASKETBALL:

Dallas are already 2-0 down to the Boston Celtics as they head into their first home-court advantage of the seven-match NBA grand final play-offs tomorrow morning.

Only five teams have previously come back from that deficit in NBA finals, although one of them was the Celtics back in 1969.

Influential Boston Centre Kristaps Porzingis is a doubt tomorrow after injuring himself during their 105-98 win in game 2.

MEN’S CRICKET:

Defending champions England need a convincing victory that massively increases their net run rate when they take on Oman at the Twenty20 world cup in Antigua tomorrow.

Anything but a win is likely to see them fail to escape from the group stage.

Elsewhere tomorrow, New Zealand are looking for their first success when they take on the unbeaten West Indies, while Bangladesh are up against the Netherlands.

MEN’S FOOTBALL:

Syria’s World Cup qualifying campaign came to a premature end on Tuesday when they were stuffed 5-0 by Japan in Hiroshima.

North Korea made it into the Asian Federation’s third qualifying round after they beat Myanmar 4-1, and China squeezed through despite losing 1-0 in South Korea.

Hibernian’s Martin Boyle scored and made two assists as Australia thumped Palestine 5-0 with both teams already qualified.
