HORSE RACING: Nine-year-old gelding Trueshan, who specialised in long-distance flat racing, was euthanised by an on-course vet after suffering a broken leg in Tuesday’s Goodwood Cup.

The nine-year-old had won 16 of his 34 career races and was partnered by Hollie Doyle to Goodwood Cup success in 2021 as well as three consecutive wins at Ascot’s Long Distance Cup. His career winnings totalled over £2 million.

SPEEDWAY: It’s all square before tonight’s second leg of the Premiership Knockout Cup final after Nicolai Klindt top-scored with 14+2 points to help King’s Lynn come from behind and draw 45-45 with Leicester on Monday evening.

Leicester, who enjoy home advantage in the second leg, have not previously won the title, while King’s Lynn last picked up the trophy in 2000 when they beat the now defunct Coventry Bees.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: The Super League has announced that it will expand from 12 to 14 teams at the end of this season.

The extra places will not be decided by promotion from the Championship, currently led by York Knights and Toulouse, but instead be subject to a grading system that was introduced last year and the whims of an “independent panel.”

Super League was reduced from 14 to 12 teams in 2015.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Cymru Premier champions The New Saints crashed out of Europe before their domestic season has even started after slipping to a 1-0 defeat away at Luxembourg’s Differdange in a Conference League second qualifying-round tie.

The New Saints begin the defence of the Welsh League Cup on Saturday against Airbus UK before taking on Llansawsel Briton Ferry in 10 days’ time to begin their Cymru Premier campaign.
