WOMEN’S TENNIS: Katie Boulter missed out on a place in the last 16 of the Washington Open after losing 3-6 6-2 6-2 to American Ashlyn Krueger today. 

The British number two dominated the opening set and secured an early break before Krueger responded. 

After making 16 unforced errors in the first set, Krueger cut those mistakes to complete the comeback and set up a last-16 meeting with Naomi Osaka.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: England goalkeeper Hannah Hampton has signed a new two-year contract with Chelsea. 

The 25-year-old’s previous deal with the Women’s Super League club was set to expire this summer. 

Hampton, who joined from Aston Villa in 2023, has won five trophies during her time in west London and was a key performer as the Lionesses won Euro 2025.

MEN’S TENNIS: Cameron Norrie reached the last 16 of the Los Cabos Open today with a 6-4 6-1 win over American Aleksandar Kovacevic. 

The fifth seed ended a six-match losing streak stretching back to April, recovering from an early break to take the opening set before cruising through the second in just 32 minutes. 

Norrie will face either Australia’s James Duckworth or American qualifier Aidan Mayo next.

WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Republic of Ireland striker Leanne Kiernan has left Liverpool to join WSL2 club Newcastle for an undisclosed fee after spending the second half of last season on loan at Nottingham Forest. 

The 27-year-old scored 23 goals in 76 appearances for the Reds in all competitions after arriving from West Ham in the summer of 2021. 

She played a key role when Liverpool were promoted from the second tier as champions in 2022, finishing as the club’s top scorer with 13 league goals.

SPEEDWAY: Ipswich Witches grabbed a 4-2 last-heat win to seal a 45-45 draw with defending champions Leicester Lions in the first leg of their Knock-Out Cup final on Monday evening. 

Drew Kemp top scored with 15 points riding at number six for the Lions. 

The second leg takes place in Leicester on Thursday night. In Monday’s Premiership action, Northampton beat King’s Lynn 48-42 in their bottom of the table clash.

MEN’S CRICKET: Warwickshire are still looking for their first points in the One-Day Cup when they host Surrey in a Group A game at Edgbaston on Wednesday. 

Defending champions Worcester put their 100 per cent record on the line with a trip to Yorkshire and unbeaten Durham face Glamorgan at Gosforth. 

Tomorrow’s other match pits winless Sussex, who have the competition’s worst net run rate, up against Essex in Arundel.

WEIGHTLIFTING: The Commonwealth Games women’s 77kg competition takes place at Glasgow’s Armadillo arena on Wednesday with Scotland’s Agata Herbert looking to improve on her seventh place in Birmingham four years ago. 

She’s followed by the men’s 94kg event, with Tom Wright lifting for Scotland and 13-time British record holder Josh Hutton representing England. 

Australia’s Eileen Cikamatana then defends her title in the women’s 86kg category.

MEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Keighley host Dewsbury in their rearranged Championship fixture tomorrow evening with both teams in the bottom half of the table. 

Originally designated as Keighley’s Pride match, the game was called off less than an hour before kick-off after the Dewsbury management team refused to play due to the dry playing surface. 

A women’s match had taken place on the same pitch earlier in the day as part of the Pride celebrations.
