MEN’S FOOTBALL: Lionel Messi scored his opening goal of the tournament and Manchester City’s Julian Alvarez bagged the second as defending champions Argentina beat Canada 2-0 in the first Copa America semi-final this morning. The Argentinians have now extended their unbeaten run to 10 games and will face either Uruguay or Colombia, who meet in Charlotte, North Carolina tomorrow, in Sunday morning’s final.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: Ireland squeezed through to the World Under-20s Championships semi-finals after their game with Australia was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch. The Irish will face England in the last four after they scored a try with the last move of the game to edge out hosts South Africa 17-12. Defending champions France beat Wales 29-11 to set up a semi-final against New Zealand, 45-13 winners over Spain.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Derry City begin their Uefa Conference League campaign tomorrow with a 1st Qualifying round tie at Gibraltar’s FCB Magpies. Formed in 2013 the Magpies are currently 386th in Uefa’s rankings, 69 places below Derry. Elsewhere in the Conference League tomorrow Connah’s Quay from the Cymru Premier are at Slovenia’s Bravo FC, Caernarfon Town meet Crusaders, Bala host Estonia’s Paide and Linfield are in Iceland to play Stjarnan.

MEN’S CYCLING: This year’s new-look Tour of Britain will cover a route from Kelso in the Scottish Borders to Felixstowe on the Suffolk coast, organisers announced today. The six-stage race will travel south via the Tees Valley, South Yorkshire and Northamptonshire. The 20th edition of the race will roll out of Kelso on September 3 with an opening stage starting and finishing in the market town.
