MEN’S CYCLING: Leeds-born national road race champion Sam Watson made the perfect start to the new cycling season with victory in Tuesday’s opening stage at the Tour Down Under. Riding for the Ineos Grenadiers team Watson finished just over half a second ahead of compatriot Ethan Hayter (NSN Cycling) after the short 3.6kms prologue around the streets of Adelaide. New Zealand’s Laurence Pithie was two seconds further back in third.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: Aston Villa have already qualified for the Europa League’s last 16 before tomorrow evening’s penultimate league phase game against Fenerbahce in Istanbul. Celtic travel to Bologna looking to boost their play-off hopes while Rangers are all but eliminated before they face Bulgaria’s Ludogorets Razgrad. Table-topping Lyon visit Young Boys of Berne and bottom club Nice seek their first point at home to Deventer’s Go Ahead Eagles.

MEN’S DARTS: Luke Littler beat Michael van Gerwen 8-5 to win Tuesday’s inaugural Saudi Arabia Darts Masters tournament, taking home £30,000 in prize money on the eve of his 19th birthday. Littler had overcome Paul Lim, Gian van Veen and Gerwyn Price en route to the final while van Gerwen, who won last week’s Bahrain Masters title, saw off India’s Nitin Kumar, Stephen Bunting and Nathan Aspinall.

MEN’S CRICKET: Harry Brook will captain England tomorrow as they begin their World Cup warm-up three match one-day series against Sri Lanka in Colombo. Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer are missing from the 15-man squad which contains Joe Root, Jos Buttler, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Adil Rashid and Jacob Bethell. Sri Lanka are currently ranked as the world’s fifth best 50 over team, three places above England.
