Cup-holders and 10-time winners Liverpool are not in action until Wednesday when they meet West Ham and Arsenal take on League One’s Bolton Wanderers.
WOMEN’S RUGBY LEAGUE: Defending champions York Valkyrie held on to beat Leeds 12-10 at Headingley on Sunday and set up a Super League Grand Final against St Helens in two weeks’ time. Winger Leah Burke scored two tries in the second half as St Helens, who topped the league during the regular season, beat Wigan 18-4 in the other semi-final eliminator and notched up their 14th consecutive win.
CYCLING: Both Olympic time-trial gold medallists triumphed at the World Championships over the weekend as Australia’s Grace Brown took the women’s title and Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel defended his rainbow jersey. Wales’s Josh Tarling was a minute and 17 seconds behind Evenepoel in fourth while England’s Anna Henderson was seventh in the women’s race. Sarah Storey won her 38th Para World title with victory in the C4-C5 time-trial.
MEN’S FOOTBALL: When Harry Kane netted his 41st goal in the Bundesliga to help table-topping Bayern Munich cruise to a 5-0 win at Werder Bremen, he moved past Jadon Sancho to become the highest-scoring Englishman in German domestic football. Four days earlier he had eclipsed Wayne Rooney as the highest-scoring Englishman in European Cup and Champions League history by scoring four goals against Dinamo Zagreb.
