MEN’S FOOTBALL: The new League of Ireland season is only two games old, but defending champions Shelbourne take the only remaining 100 per cent record into Dublin’s Ringsend derby against Shamrock Rovers at Tolka Park tonight.

Newly promoted Cork face Bohemians, it’s second against third as Drogheda host Galway, Derry City play Waterford and bottom club Sligo are looking for their first point when they travel to St Patrick’s.

MEN’S ICE HOCKEY: Goals from Zsombor Garat and Cooper Zach sealed a 2-0 win for Nottingham Panthers over Belfast Giants in the second leg of their Challenge Cup semi-final on Wednesday night but they lost out 3-2 on aggregate to the Irishmen.

Five-time cup-winners Belfast, who currently sit top of the Elite League, will next be up against Cardiff on their home ice in early March for a repeat of the 2022 final.

MEN’S CYCLING: This year’s Tour de France will begin with a team time trial for the first time in its history.

The 19.7km route around Barcelona will finish with a short climb to the city’s Olympic stadium and, in another first for the tour, each rider will be timed individually rather than as a team.

The tour starts with three days in Spain as stages two and three roll out of Tarragona and Granollers.

MEN’S RUGBY UNION: United Rugby Championship action resumes tomorrow evening with Munster taking on Edinburgh a day after announcing that current Waikato Chiefs boss Clayton McMillan will become their new head coach at the end of the season.

Elsewhere tonight the bottom two clash when Zebre meet Newport Dragons in Parma. Unbeaten table-toppers Leinster play Cardiff and second-placed Glasgow face the Ospreys on Saturday.
