MEN’S FOOTBALL: West Ham are the only Premier League under-21 team to reach the last 16 of the English Football League trophy after a George Earthy strike earned them a 1-0 win at Colchester on Tuesday evening. The Hammers will face AFC Wimbledon in the next round where 2023’s champions Bolton meet Port Vale, two-time winners Rotherham visit Huddersfield and Harrogate, the lowest ranked team, travel to Stockport.

CYCLING: The new NSN Cycling squad, co-owned by Spain’s World Cup winning midfielder Andres Iniesta, will include five British riders and Eritrea’s Biniam Girmay for next year’s world tour races. Lewis Askey, Joseph Blackmore, Jake Stewart, Stephen Williams and double track world championship bronze medallist Ethan Vernon are all part of the new team that has replaced the toxic brand of Israel Premier Tech in the peloton.

RUGBY LEAGUE: Seven days after ex-Super League club Salford were closed down by the High Court due to extreme debt levels, three-time Challenge Cup winners Featherstone Rovers have voluntarily entered administration due to “unsustainable financial difficulties.” The club had been due to face a formal winding up petition on Wednesday. Founded in 1902, Featherstone won the First Division tile in 1977 but never competed in Super League.

MEN’S FOOTBALL: All 36 Europa League teams are in action tomorrow evening as round six of the new format kicks off with Dinamo Zagreb hosting unbeaten Real Betis and lowly Rangers in Budapest to face a Ferencvaros team that are also yet to lose. Third-placed Aston Villa visit Basel, Celtic meet Roma, table-topping Lyon play Deventer’s Go Ahead Eagles, Nottingham Forest are at Utrecht and bottom of the pile Nice take on Sporting Braga.
