
WOMEN’S SWIMMING: 28-year-old Katie Ledecky became the first swimmer to win seven world championships in the same event after taking gold in Saturday’s 800 metres freestyle event.
The Washington DC native is the most successful female swimmer ever, winning 14 Olympic medals, including nine golds, the first of which she picked up in London aged 15. Ledecky also holds 14 of the 16 fastest times for the 800 metres.
WHEELCHAIR RUGBY LEAGUE: Unbeaten Halifax top the Super League on points difference after they cruised to a 68-0 win at Wigan and second-placed London Roosters, who are also yet to lose, earned a huge 52-28 victory at defending champions Leeds.
With two games to go the title is likely to be decided by points difference. Bottom club Edinburgh remain without a win after Hull FC scored three late tries to hand them to a 52-34 defeat.
WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Belfast’s Cliftonville are out of the Champions League after losing 2-1 to Georgian team Lanchkuti in their first qualifying-round final tie on Saturday evening.
Compatriots Athlone cruised through to the next stage after Madison Graham spectacularly scored twice direct from corners in their 3-0 victory over Croatia’s ZNK Agram. Athlone will face Iceland’s Breidablik in the second qualifying round.
MEN’S CRICKET: Pakistan are 1-0 up when they face the West Indies for the second of their three match Twenty20 series in Florida tomorrow.
Despite Jason Holder bludgeoning an unbeaten 30 from 12 balls the Windies lost the opening fixture by 14 runs.
Mohammed Nawaz was the pick of the Pakistani bowlers with 3-23. Pakistan are ranked as the world’s eighth-best short format team, two places below the West Indies.
