MEN’S RUGBY UNION: World champions South Africa are 1-0 down when they face New Zealand for the second leg of their four-match series in Cape Town this afternoon. 

Beauden Barrett is again left out of the All Blacks squad, while South Africa have recalled former captain Siya Kolisi and Handre Pollard. Argentina face Australia this evening in San Salvador de Jujuy for the first match of their two-Test series.

HORSE RACING: Two-time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Gallopin des Champs has been retired from racing by trainer Willie Mullins. 

The French-bred 10-year-old gelding won 12 Group One races, almost £2 million in prize money and was only denied a Gold Cup treble when finishing second to Inothewayurthinkin in 2025. 

He won three successive Irish Gold Cups at Leopardstown and was Timeform’s horse of the season in 2025.

SPEEDWAY: Hosts Poland are seeking their fourth consecutive World Cup success tonight in Warsaw. 

Led by current individual world champion Bartosz Zmarzlik, the Poles are joined in the final by 2025’s Speedway of Nations champions Australia, Denmark and the British team of Robert Lambert, Charles Wright, Adam Ellis, Leon Blunt and Tom Brennan. Britain were runners-up in 2023 but have never won the trophy.

MEN’S CRICKET: Sonal Dinusha hit an unbeaten 133 from 264 balls and tail-ender Keshara Nuwantha ground out a resolute 46 as Sri Lanka salvaged a draw from their second Test against India at Colombo. 

It was Dinusha’s second century of the match and helped rescue the hosts from a huge 213-run deficit when they began their follow-on. 

India won the series 1-0 and sit fourth in the world rankings, three places above Sri Lanka.
