Sodexo workers resumes strikes at Shetlands-based oil and gas export hub

SODEXO workers at one of Europe’s largest oil and gas processing and export hubs resumed strike action for 24 hours today in an escalating pay row.

Some 30 Unite members employed by the French facilities management company are set to take part in four further walkouts at Sullom Voe terminal in the Shetlands.

The mechanics, cleaners, plant operators and electricians will down tools on January 12, 14, 21, and 28 with about 60 Altrad contractors also set to strike at the site on January 12 and 16.

Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “Sodexo have not tabled an acceptable pay offer to our members for the past year which is completely unacceptable. The workers deserve to be treated with respect but Sodexo is treating them with contempt.

“Sodexo is a profitable company and it could end this dispute today but the company is putting profits before people.”

Sodexo was contacted for comment.
