A LONDON council is presiding over “another Grenfell in the making” as all 80 of its tall housing blocks have life-critical fire safety defects.
Independent socialist candidate for Tottenham Nandita Lal called on Haringey Council to take immediate action to improve the safety of its council homes after uncovering the risks, which include defective fire doors and compartmentation, with a freedom of information request.
Her research also found that 46 Haringey council blocks have combustible materials on their external walls.
She said: “This is another Grenfell in the making. No more cover-ups — I will hold the government and local council to account.”
Haringey council tenant Paul Burnham, who lives in the 15-storey Newbury House, said: “The panels on my balcony are combustible, and a fire could spread into my home from any of the flats below me.
“It could go straight up the side of the building.”
The council was contacted for comment.
