THE Scottish Greens have pledged to use Holyrood’s full powers to boycott, divest from and sanction Israel and firms complicit in the genocide against Palestinians if elected.
Scotland became the first country to agree to a boycott, passing a motion in parliament last year. But SNP ministers in the Scottish government have still not taken action to implement it, the Greens said.
To fully implement the boycott, the party said it will end all contracts with firms identified by the UN as being complicit in illegal Israeli building programmes in the West Bank. It would also support councils to join the Boycott, Divestment & Sanctions (BDS) campaign and issue guidance urging businesses to cease trading with Israel.
Scottish Greens co-leader Ross Greer said: “The genocide inflicted on the people of Gaza has included some of the worst war crimes of this century. People across Scotland are horrified by Israel’s brutal bombing campaign and illegal settlements.
“I am sure taxpayers don’t want to see their money being handed to the companies complicit in that. We must ensure that Scotland does not give a penny to the companies that have enabled and profited from Israeli killings and apartheid.”
