Scottish Greens pledge green space access for every community
A man running through the Scottish Highlands

THE Scottish Green party published plans today to increase access to green spaces regardless of income.

Their proposal would force developers to include tree planting in their building plans and to ensure green areas be accessible in all new contruction projects.

Recent figures from the Woodland Trust showed that 80 per cent of Scots live in towns and cities and that hundreds of neighbourhoods only have 10 per cent of tree cover.

Scottish Greens co-leader Gillian Mackay said: “Too many people in Scotland are living without access to the most basic green spaces.

“Access to nature should never be considered as a luxury only a few can enjoy, when it should be something that every community can rely on and use.”

If elected in the upcoming election on May 7, Ms Mackay pledged the Greens would “make sure Scotland’s nature is something everyone can enjoy, regardless of income.”
