Scottish anti-war campaigners to demand ‘break with US warmongering’

ANTI-WAR campaigners will gather in Glasgow tomorrow in a national demonstration calling on political leaders to “break with” US President Donald Trump.

Organisers, which include trade unions, peace campaigners and civil society groups, are urging people from across Scotland to join and express their opposition to US-led foreign policy, the war on Iran and to stand in solidarity with the people of Lebanon and Palestine.

A Stop the War Scotland spokesperson said: “This demonstration reflects the deep concern and anger felt across Scotland in response to the illegal and catastrophic war on Iran unleashed by the United States and Israel.

“We reject outright the use of Scottish airports to refuel and facilitate US military operations.

“Scots do not want their civilian infrastructure used to support this war of aggression and its devastating humanitarian and economic consequences.”

They called on the British and Scottish governments to “take immediate action to break with US warmongering,” adding: “We march in opposition to the genocide in Gaza and in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

“And against the barbaric attacks on Lebanon, which have killed hundreds of people in recent days alone.”

Protesters will gather at 11am, Glasgow Green (McLennan Arch).
