OF COURSE all eyes will be on the mighty CONSTITUTION HILL (Sandown Park, 1.15) and it will be a huge shock if the likes of either of the two mares (in receipt of just 7lbs), Love Envoi or You Wear It Well, turn the champion over. But as a betting proposition this is a no bet win race; merely watch and savour.

However, I fancy the wager may well see the enigmatic Goshen make the forecast a viable play. The ground was way too quick for Gary Moore’s talented boy and I can see him making this a real test at the trip, and perhaps making the frame.

However, the real bets this afternoon come away from the feature race at the Esher track and my main focus for the past few days has been on the concluding contest, the London National Handicap Chase over an extended three and a half miles at 3.35.

I had a long range bet on Beauport for the Gold Cup last week, but sadly the “Twister” obviously thought that he was too inexperienced to take on that massive contest. The slower nature of this gallop will certainly suit him better and he has a good record around the Surrey course over timber. However, at around the 4/1 mark the layers have the seven-year-old exactly where they want him and there are better each-way plays for this real slug fest which will take no prisoners.

The one I fancy playing with is BOLDMERE at around the 25/1 mark. You may think that supporting this 10-year-old with a “P” next to the left of his name is madness, but he was badly hampered at Aintree first time out at the tenth fence, losing all momentum in the process, and Harry Bannister had no other option but to pull his partner up.

What that has resulted in though is a handy drop in the ranks to a mark of 135, his last winning rating, and I fancy a huge step forward. He is significantly better off at the weights with his Newbury conqueror last year, Cyclop, although that 12-year-old is running as well as ever and could be a player alongside Fortescue who is becoming dangerously well treated if ready first time up.

Of the other races at the track I also fancy a huge run from ELLE EST BEAU, getting a lump of weight from her fellow mares in the 12.05, while the Skelton camp and young Tristan Durrell can complete a big priced double courtesy of SHOLOKJACK in the qualifier due off at 12.40.

Chantry House will make the market for this three mile stamina test following his eye-catching effort last time out and he is feared despite his steadier of 12 stone. However, the selection is now fully 8lbs lower than when down the field behind Slate Lane in the big staying handicap hurdle at Haydock Park last time out. That race hardly played to his strengths, and this stiffer test of stamina should prove right up his street with no weight on his back.

The famous Grand National fences come into play at Aintree for the second time this season with a competitive renewal of the Becher Chase due off at 2.05 with a decent field of 14 set to go to post.

Last year’s winner, Ashtown Lad, is merely 2lbs higher than winning this race impressively last year and Harry Skelton comes here rather than ride for the yard at Sandown Park. Still, he needs a big step back here after being pulled up in the Badger Beer at Wincanton.

However, the one to be on here surely has to be LOUNGE LIZARD at a huge price. Still only six, the light weight has been crying out for a test like this with his guaranteed stamina and excellent jumping technique to boot. A mark of 136 looks very playable getting bundles of weight from the likes of big players The Big Breakaway and Highland Hunter, and I think he is worth a lumpy each-way play with the extra place terms up for grabs.

MONOCHROMIX looks an interesting play in the novices handicap hurdle at 12.20. This will be a severe test for these young horses, but this son of Morandi has long looked like an out and out stayer from his novice hurdle days, and you can safely forget his run last time out at Kelso as he lost a shoe in running and probably found everything happening that wee bit too quick on the good to soft ground.

There looks to be plenty of pace on in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap chase at 1.30. Jumping is always the name of the game over the stiff Mildmay fences at the track, and that could play into the hands of the well handicapped DALY TIGER. He finally gets a chance to run over his optimum trip again, and the assessor has given him a real chance here off a rating of only 122 with the talented Kevin Brogan on board. He stepped nicely forward from his seasonal debut here when running well at Haydock last time out, and he should now be ready to deliver a peak challenge in this class two affair off a lovely light weight.

With only 12 runs under rules, CHANCE A TUNE remains very lightly raced for an eight-year-old, and is of considerable interest under Sam Twiston-Davies off bottom weight in the two-and-a-half-mile handicap hurdle that ends the Liverpool card at 3.15. He was a real eye catcher from way off the pace behind Knickerbockerglory at Ascot recently, and this set-up looks perfect to him even if this is a slightly better class event.
