RUSSIA launched a barrage of missiles and drones at Ukrainian cities in overnight attacks, Ukrainian officials said today, as Moscow “hesitated” on further ceasefire talks.
Washington has proposed further negotiations next week in Miami or Abu Dhabi, Ukrainian President Voloydmyr Zelensky said late on Wednesday.
Ukraine “immediately confirmed” attendance, he said, adding: “So far, as I understand it, Russia is hesitating.”
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, however, confirmed that another round was expected “soon.”
The Ukrainian air force reported 219 long-range strike drones, 24 ballistic missiles and a guided aircraft missile fired overnight.
Targets included Kiev, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Odessa.
In Dnipro, four people were injured, including a four-year-old girl and newborn boy.
In Kiev, residential buildings were damaged and two people were injured.
And in Odessa, one person was injured as a high-rise was partially destroyed. A market and supermarket also caught fire.
Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine Oleksii Kulebasaid 2,600 buildings lost heating in Kiev following the attack, adding to 1,100 already without heat from previous strikes.
In Odessa, nearly 300,000 residents were left without running water, while in Dnipro, central heating stopped for around 10,000 people.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk urged Russia to stop hitting electricity infrastructure, reminding Moscow that targeting civilian infrastructure is prohibited under international humanitarian law.
Meanwhile, Ukraine has hit back at Russia with long-range strikes on military targets and oil refineries with no condemnation.
Ukraine’s general staff said a domestically developed drone had struck the Ukhta oil refinery in Russia’s Komi region, around 1,750km from the border.
It also confirmed damaging the Volgograd oil refinery the previous day.
