Russia yet to receive revised peace plan agreed by Ukraine

UKRAINE has agreed to peace proposals put forward by US President Donald Trump to end hostilities with Russia, US media reported today.

The reports, citing Trump administration sources, said that Kiev had agreed to a revised version of the 28-point peace plan after talks with its European allies in Geneva at the weekend.

The proposals now on the table have reportedly been reduced to 19 points and are apparently more aligned with Ukraine’s aims, with problems relating to territory to be tackled in talks between Mr Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky later this week.

It is not yet clear which items have been deleted from the original 28-point plan, which Russia’s government had welcomed.

The Kremlin warned that it would be a “completely different situation” if amendments did not reflect the spirit and letter of the talks between President Vladimir Putin and Mr Trump.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said today that Russia was now waiting for the “interim” proposals following the European and Ukrainian alterations.

Moscow said it had only received the original plan via unofficial channels.

Mr Lavrov said: “It wasn’t sent to us officially. However, just as the [Russian] president said, we are ready to discuss its content because there are a number of issues that require clarification.

“Our American colleagues have not yet provided us with the version the media are speculating about.”

He added: “Those who engage in this kind of megaphone diplomacy certainly don’t pursue noble goals. They make no secret of it: [French President Emmanuel] Macron has said recently that President Trump’s plan is unacceptable because it means a surrender to Russia.

“He also mentioned other objections, saying that everything should depend on Ukraine’s willingness to adhere to agreements. Serious diplomats discuss such things privately, the way they are supposed to, until a final agreement is reached.”
