SEAFARERS who provide essential logistical and operational support to the Royal Navy will go on another 24-hour strike on Thursday over a pay and conditions row.
Royal Fleet Auxiliary workers can routinely work up to 12 hours a day but “there remains no clear or transparent formula setting out how pay is calculated against those hours,” said the RMT union.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said: “Despite repeated efforts by our union to secure a fair deal, the employer has failed to return with any improved offer.”
He said that his members were frustrated over the “inaction” of their bosses, adding: “The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the employer must now come forward with a serious proposal on pay and conditions, including ensuring full compliance with national minimum wage legislation.”
RMT members previously went on strike over the issue on April 7.
The MoD was contacted for comment.
