Reach for the star
Supporting the star back in the day

THIS WEEK, while talking to a colleague, I was reminded of how in the past we would have campaigns based around what our readers could do to help boost our sales, eg “Buy an additional copy of the paper for a friend.” This set me down a rabbit hole, and eventually I found a document hailing back to when the paper was based at Ardleigh Road over 25 years ago. Titled “What you can do to support your paper.” In the intervening years, not a lot has changed: we still need to encourage more people to read and, more importantly, buy the paper — and yes, we do need your help.

Be proud of the paper, take it out and about, show articles, mention it at meetings, quote it in speeches, cut out articles for notice boards. If you read our digital edition forward articles to friends and family in the same way you would show the printed copy. A good introduction to the Morning Star is to encourage friends and colleagues to sign up for the Morning Star daily alert. It’s free. Worth its own sentence as not something you hear often from us.

Sign up for our daily newsletter using this link https://tinyurl.com/bde7fsnh with a paywall on the website of five articles a month, it won’t be long before interest is piqued and a new reader is achieved. Thank you to all who have ordered papers for use on stalls and events taking place today. This is another way of introducing the paper to a new audience and is a good opportunity to explain “who we are.” More on “who we are” next week. The editor is keen to hear how papers that we supply have been used, so please do email me with this valuable feedback.
