THE last two weekends have been joyous occasions where we could meet to commemorate and celebrate at the Durham Miners’ Gala and Tolpuddle Festival.
Thanks to everyone who supported our special editions, with articles, advertisement or the physical distribution of the papers.
Today is more of a reality check where our supporters will once again staff the Saturday stalls and be joining protests against the far right which is where you may well have come across this paper.
Readers will be glad to hear that comrades in Glasgow are once again with a gazebo to shelter under should the weather turn.
The stall report highlighted the interest of international tourists in the stall, with visitors from Spain, Russia, China and Italy — the latter giving a rendition of Bella Ciao — all stopping and having a chat.
Don’t forget to send your stall/activity reports to me at bernadettekeaveney@peoples-press.com.
Our fundraising walking hero mentioned last week, Ron Brown, yesterday reached Middleton in Teesdale, exactly halfway through his Pennine Way walk to raise funds for the paper, having covered 134 miles. If he keeps this rate up, he should finish next Friday in Kirk Yetholm.
With a target of £1,000 to raise, it’s good to know that he is over the halfway mark. Ron is posting videos on his Facebook page (www.facebook.com/RonBrown99) each day, so if you want to feel like you are on the walk with him, do tune in.
Encourage Ron in his walk by donating to his Crowdfunder at https://tinyurl.com/RonPennineWay.
