Rayner acquires third home as she buys seaside flat
Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner addresses the Local Government Association Annual Conference, at Harrogate Convention Centre, North Yorkshire, October 24, 2024

HOUSING SECRETARY Angela Rayner has added another home — a sprawling seaside apartment reportedly costing £800,000 — to her growing property portfolio, it was revealed today.

Ms Rayner’s new neighbours in Hove said she had bought the three-bedroom flat in May for use as a holiday home, the Mail on Sunday reported.

The Deputy Prime Minister already owns a home in her constituency in Ashton-under-Lyne, greater Manchester, valued at £650,000, and has a three-bedroom grace-and-favour flat in central London.

Ms Rayner is looking to impose an extra 100 per cent council tax charge on second homes, following complaints that locals are being frozen out of the housing market in tourist destinations.

But shadow housing secretary James Cleverly has accused Ms Rayner of failing to come clean about her living arrangements.

“Time and again she’s been asked to declare exactly what properties she owns and where she pays council tax, and time and again she’s dodged those questions.”

Ms Rayner was contacted for comment.
