Public thinks Andy Burnham would make better PM than Starmer or Farage, polling shows

THE public thinks Andy Burnham would make a better PM than the incumbent Sir Keir Starmer and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage, polling shows.

Labour voters also preferred the Greater Manchester mayor over Sir Keir by 36 per cent to 29 per cent, according to Ipsos.

Pitting politicians head to head, the public were split on whether they prefer Sir Keir, Mr Farage or Tory leader Kemi Badenoch to be PM.

More than seven in 10 (71 per cent) who took part in the survey between November 28 and December 2 said that the country is heading in the wrong direction.

Sir Keir and Mr Farage polled better than Health Secretary Wes Streeting, Energy Secretary Ed Miliband and Green Party leader Zack Polanski.

Director of UK politics at Ipsos Keiran Pedley said: “Burnham holds net positive favourable ratings and is preferred as Prime Minister to Keir Starmer and slightly leads Nigel Farage too.”
