Plans being made for Putin and Trump summit

PLANS are being made for a face-to-face meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and United States President Donald Trump, Russia’s deputy foreign minister said on Saturday.

Speaking to Russian state media, Sergei Ryabkov said any Putin-Trump summit could involve broad talks on global issues, not just the war in Ukraine.

“The question is about starting to move toward normalising relations between our countries, finding ways to resolve the most acute and potentially very, very dangerous situations, of which there are many, Ukraine amongst them,” he said.

Mr Ryabkov added that Russian and US envoys could meet in the next two weeks to pave the way for further talks between senior officials.

Russian and US representatives meeting in Saudi Arabia last Tuesday agreed to start working toward ending the war in Ukraine and improving their diplomatic and economic ties.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov described the meeting with Mr Rubio as “very useful.”
