Parents, trade unionists and pupils unite to fight cuts

PARENTS, trade unionists and pupils rallied today to fight the loss of 450 teaching posts in Glasgow.
At its budget meeting in February, Glasgow City Council approved swingeing cuts to education, including cutting jobs of all co-ordinators in its MCR Pathways mentoring programme for young people, its Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) initiative, as well as axing teaching posts.
Some 172 posts are expected to go this year alone, and 450 teaching posts over the term of the three-year budget plan.
