ORGANISERS have called for the release of all those detained on the peace march from Egypt to Gaza’s Rafah border crossing.
Global March to Gaza made the demand today after claiming that two international co-ordinators were arrested in Cairo at the weekend.
March organisers told the Star that Manuel Tapial from Spain was deported this morning, while Hicham El Ghaoui from France is currently being processed for deportation.
The 3,500-strong march, involving people from 54 countries, is demanding that Israel allows in aid into the beseiged territory.
More than 200 people from Britain, including a contingent of CND Cymru members, are among those marching to the Rafah border crossing.
Since the marchers set off last Thursday, 40 participants had their passports taken at a checkpoint on the way out of Cairo.
They were then held in the heat, not allowed to move and effectively kettled.
The Egyptian police stopped all vehicles and forced anybody with a non-Egyptian passport to alight 30 kilometres from Ismailia.
March organisers urged the Egyptian authorities to work with them and said they were complying with Egyptian law.
A march spokesperson said: “Our global movement to end the genocide of the Palestinian people will not be deterred, and more actions and initiatives are already under way.
“Our commitment remains unwavering, and we stand in solidarity with the people of Gaza.
“We continue to call for the immediate opening of a sustained humanitarian corridor, and demand an end to the ongoing genocide.”
