TODAY marks the one-year anniversary of the all-out strike by Unite Birmingham bin workers — a dispute that has now lasted more than 14 months.

Disputes of this length are rare in our movement. This anniversary also comes just a day after the conclusion of another major dispute in this country, led by the Unison Gloucestershire phlebotomists.

At #StrikeMap, our role is to support workers in struggle, help build the strongest possible solidarity movement for those taking strike action, and strengthen the links between workers involved in these industrial disputes.

We salute the determination of Unite members who are resisting huge cuts to their living standards and standing up for public services across Birmingham.

With the May elections approaching, it is time for Birmingham City Council to resolve this dispute.

We will continue to stand with these workers alongside the entire trade union movement, many of whom have supported solidarity events and actions throughout the past year.

This struggle is not just about the city of Birmingham — it is about the conditions and rights of workers across the country.

Power to the bin workers. Victory to the strikers.
