HEALTH workers at NHS Grampian have voted overwhelmingly for strike action after the closure of a rehabilitation centre in Aberdeen sparked dispute over terms and conditions, their union GMB Scotland has announced.
Thirty workers across admin, domestic, support and supervision services, at the 60-bed respite and rehab centre Rosewell House, had transferred into the NHS from Bon Accord Care in 2024.
But now, as the facility nears closure, staff fear that redeployment to a new lower-paying NHS role could mean their TUPE pay protections reduced to just one year — six months on present pay, and six months splitting the difference.
Despite the GMB union’s intervention to secure assurances on pay, however, NHS Grampian have so far failed to do so, prompting a ballot that won unanimous backing for strike action.
Aberdeen GMB Scotland organiser Sean Robertson warned: “Our members face the potential loss of thousands of pounds in salary, annual leave and the erosion of other conditions of employment.
“It is unfair, unwarranted and will not stand.”
An NHS Grampian spokesperson said it was “committed to further discussions with the aim of reaching a fair and timely resolution for all involved.”
