Morning Star readers and supporters gather in Barnsley for northern AGM
Northern PPPS AGM 2024

MORNING STAR readers and supporters gathered in the historic council chamber of Yorkshire Area of the National Union of Mineworkers in Barnsley for the northern section of the annual general meeting of the Peoples Press Printing Society on Saturday.

The council chamber, bedecked with pit banners, has seen debates on the General Strike of 1926, the miners’ strikes of 1972, 1974 and the 1984-5 strike against pit closures.

Morning Star editor Ben Chacko said: “This is probably the most magnificent setting for the annual meeting of the PPPS that I have ever seen in my time as editor.
